I COLOSSI is a family- owned company that works with young and enterprising spirit in the field of wine production.
Our product comes from a careful monitoring of all the stages, from the vine cultivated with passion in our land, to the accurate winemaking, packaging and the delivery of the finished product to our customers.
Legend ascribes its colonization to the hero of the Trojan war, Diomede, founder of many towns in Apulia.
Diomede, castaway, as Ulysses and many other warriors, sailing across the Adriatic Sea dicovered the mouth of the river Ofanto and sailed it up until he found an ideal place for himself; here he used the stones of the walls of the city of Troy, that brought with himself as ballast, as boundary stones to mark the territory that he called “ Campi Diomedei”.
One of these stones can still be admired between Barletta and Canosa and is known as the Menhir of Canne della Battaglia. Probably the greek hero brought with himself also something else as booty: those vine- shoots that, planted on the banks of the River Ofanto, gave rise to the Troia Grapes.
It’s curious to find out that in the 18th book of “Iliade” of Homer, the classical work that describes the Trojan war, there is a passage that describes a vine that resembles the Troia grapes.
